Keeping Fate with Vision of Transformation- Prof Oyewole Example




The administrations of the Military President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida on January 1st, 1988 established first two universities of agriculture in Abeokuta and Makurdi. Following its establishment, Professor Nurudeen Olorun-Nimbe Adedipe was appointed the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and then known as University of Agriculture. Professor Adedipe and others that succeeded him made frantic efforts to transform the University to the darling of many Nigerians and its catchment areas. The incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole came into the Institution at a critical period when the University was contemplating in adding more courses to its programmes Professor Oyewole who himself was a thoroughbred administrator with the passion of putting finesse to whatever he lays his hand on. Mapped out some strategies to transform the Institution His vision was to promote the Federal University of Agriculture to World class status by providing a visionary leadership empowering the human capacity promoting quality and excellence in teaching and research for development and community engagement for societal impact. These visions since the last four and some months wee being pursue with vigour and determination without minding whose ox is gore since he was committed to the goals and aspirations of the founding fathers of the citadel of learning. Within those years, Professor Oyewol had been able to turn the fortune of the University around, thereby making it to be the pride of all stakeholders by ensuring that he kept on with the vision and mission of his appointment. For example, Professor Olusola Oyewole recently while speaking with some selected Journalists while inspecting some of the ongoing projects in the University said within the few months he will ensure that some of the projects are satisfactorily completed and commissioned. His words, “in spite of the few challenges that the University is facing now, when I took over as the Vice Chancellor of this great University about Five years ago, I set the agenda to transform FUNAAB into a world class University by ensuring that our graduates can compete with their counterparts world over, this we have done and I am proud of that” He added ” FUNAAB under my administration has been designated as a World Bank Center of excellence in Agriculture through our proposal on the establishment of the “center of excellence Agricultural Development and Sustainable Environment (CEADESE)’ .”We have many completed structures on ground now, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital was completed under my tenure, and they have been relocated to the site.”Many classrooms and several lecture theatres equipped with multimedia facilities have been built and commissioned and they are now being used as central facilities for teaching students”. Prof Oyewole opined further that during his administration, more than twenty gigantic projects were embarked upon with a high number of them completed and already in use by the Students and Staff while some are ready for commissioning. He said that the School hostel that is under construction when completed will finally solve the accommodation problem facing the Students, thereby reducing the challenges of insecurity of lives of our Students.”Apart from physical structures that adorn the University which are visible to everybody to behold from the point of entrance into the School, we have not also toil with the welfare of our Staff, while also maintaining academic excellence that FUNAAB is known for “While thanking the stakeholders in the University for their support in the last five years, Professor Oyewole said “all these things you are seeing today could not have been achievable without the support and commitment of the Staff and Students of the University and the Governing Council. He assured that within the few months remaining for him to spend as Vice Chancellor of the University, he will take the welfare of Staff paramount while ensuring that most of the ongoing projects are completed.
