The ongoing power tussle between Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Comptroller General of Customs, Rtd. Col. Hameed Ali added another twist today,March 16th, as the Senators mandated the Customs Boss to go back and re-appear before it, in his full Customs uniform.
Earlier during Plenary, the Deputy Senate President, who was presiding, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu had asked the Customs boss why he did not appear in his uniform, to which the CG said there was no law stating he must appear in his uniform. Senator Na’Allah then cited Sections 7,8 and 10 of the Customs Act which states that the Customs shares same privileges with police and other institutions, hence the Customs boss was expected to dress in his full customs uniform.
After some debates, the matter was put up for a voice vote. The Senators then agreed and mandated that Col. Hameed Ali must go back and re-appear before it in uniform on Wednesday 22nd March, 2017″ Inthenews
