The Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju Adekunbi has denied allegations going round that lawmakers under his leadership in the present 8th legislature collected any money as kickback on any of the ongoing road projects embarked upon by the present administration in the stat
Adekunbi, who corrected the impression while featuring on a radio programme in Abeokuta, described it as unfounded and untrue.
‘’We did not collect any money, as we all believed that the roads are for the benefit of our people and will outlive us’’, he said.
The Speaker explained that the lawmakers were voted to represent the interest of people in their various constituencies, saying the hallowed chamber remained committed to ensuring that funds were appropriated accordingly to facilitate the execution of projects towards making life more meaningful for the people of the State.
He said in global view, the issue of road construction was belated as it was ‘’something that we should have outlived as a nation even two decades ago’’, but however expressed the optimism that the ongoing road projects would further propel the influx of industries to the State for more socio-economic development.
Adekunbi, however, enjoined the people of the state to be patient with the contractors who have already moved to sites to continue work on the roads.
