The Federal Government and the Ogun State Government have met to fashion out the best engineering design to give right of way for the ongoing Lagos-Ibadan railway project.
The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi made this known in an interview with newsmen after inspecting the flyover at Ijoko, Sango Ota area of the State in company with Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Amaechi explained that the purpose of the visit was to address the challenges causing the delay of the project towards meeting the set target, just as he identified the right of way and height of the flyover being constructed by the present administration in the State as some of the reasons for the delay.
The Transport Minister stated that the ministry having consulted with building practitioners would await the best engineering options to address the challenge.
Speaking on the cash refund on Federal roads constructed by the Ogun State Government, Mr Ameachi explained that the Federal Executive Council have begun the process towards refunding the money, assuring that the people whose houses were demolished to pave way for such projects would be duly compensated.
On his part, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun expressed delight over the Federal Government’s readiness to ensure that the railway project becomes a reality saying the project when completed would be of immense benefit to the people.
Governor said ‘’it will be in the interest of the nation if the rail is fixed as the economy of the country depends to a considerable extent on the Ogun State axis which is like a passage for other states’’.
Amosun while observing that about 90 percent of the roads constructed in the State by his administration were Federal roads, urged the Federal government to expedite action on the refund so that the money could be used for further development in the state.
