The Executive Secretary, Ogun State Primary Healthcare Development Board, Dr Elijah Ogunsola, has stated that poliomyelitis would not have any breathing space in Ogun, as the State Government was determined to maintain its polio free Status.
Ogunsola disclosed this in Abeokuta during a media chat to commemorate this year’s World Polio Day, themed ‘’End Polio Now,’’ noting that the polio free status of the state would be attributed to concerted effort of the present administration.
He enumerated the four strategies employed in the course of eradiating polio in the state as Campaign, Routine Immunization (RI), Surveillance and Mop-up strategies.
Speaking on the quality Healthcare delivery in the state, Ogunsola said that the Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS), tagged ‘’Araya’’ has positively imparted on the well-being of pregnant women, children between 0 and 5 years as well as the aged people, particularly those in the rural areas across the state. The PHCDB Boss noted that the State Government was committed to the maintenance of the cold store meant to preserve vaccines for efficiency in order to avail the people of quality healthcare service. ’The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun is not taking matters of healthcare service with levity, that is why he has ensured the renovation of the cold store and improve delivery of the Araya programme across the nooks and crannies of the state,’’ he said. In his contribution, the President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ogun State Chapter, Dr. Lawal Akinlade, commended the State Government on its polio free status, while urging the citizenry to avoid self medication and take advantage of medical facilities whenever they notice any strange feeling in their body.
