The incumbent Governor of Ogun State,Prince Dapo Abiodun came to office on the heels of huge expectations from residents, public officials and investors, among others, with a firm believe in the electoral promise of good governance and prosperity of the state.
By and large, the almost one month of Governor Abiodun in office can easily be described as a period with promising attempts capable of transforming the state.
For example,Prince Abiodun has shown a high degree of calmness in the face of pressure within this short time.Ordinarily,he seems to be the type who is not given to too much words but committed to mighty works such that you will wonder when all these steps were being taken.
The doggedness of the state’s helmsman to ensure that workers salaries were paid in less than his first 48hours in office is so commendable owing to the nature of the lean purse he met when he formally resumed to office on May 30,2019.
Also, the Governor’s plan to declare a state of emergency on the education sector in order to reposition it for greater productivity is in no small measure a right step in the right direction.
Without doubt, the directive that the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,Ojere, Abeokuta should return to status-quo while the committee set up to look into the issues relating to the creation of Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology as well as Ogun State Polytechnic,Ipokia, has laid to rest all fears and worries about the reputable institution. Both staff and students of MAPOLY have since taken to various forms of media to express their gratitude to the Governor for the decision.
It is no news that the Tai Solarin College of Education,Omu-Ijebu,has in the recent past been at the center of the storm capable of rocking the boat of the college which has produced giants in the education sector. There is no doubt that the Prof. Kamaldeen Balogun-led committee set up by the Governor would do justice to the issues which have turned the institution into a shadow of itself such that will enable the present administration to give a new lease of life to the staff and continued existence of the school.
In the last one month,Governor Abiodun has put a committee in place to look into the issues of last minutes appointment of traditional rulers of the immediate past dministration as a way of attending to eye-brows being raised in some quarters and ensuring that there is peaceful co-existence in all the nooks and cranies of the Gateway State.
This committee, headed by the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount ruler of Yewa la d,Oba Kehinde Olugbenle have been working assiduously to come up with sound recommendations for the number one citizen of the state.
It is on record that the appointments of the Secretary to the State Government,Mr. Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi,Chief of State to the Governor, Alhaji Salisu Shaibu and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,Mr. Olakunle Somorin have been greeted with a huge encomium given the quality of these individuals and their pedigree in the private sector.
This,no doubt, gave a flash of bright hope that the cabinet of the Remo Prince will be made up of sons and daughters of Ogun State who can deliver good governance.
Of a truth, the news that rural roads would be a priority of the present government is in no small way a welcome information given the state of disrepair of roads and difficulty being encountered in accessing the major roads by farmers and residents who live in the hinterlands.
In addition, the decision to give an urgent attention to the Agbara-Igbesa axis of the state which can be described as the heart of revenue generation in Ogun is a right step in the right direction. It is no news that the hardship being faced daily by investors in that part of the state can easily drive force them to relocate elsewhere.
With Governor Abiodun in the saddle, investors are rest assured that the infrastructural facelift of Agbara-Igbesa area is not secondary in the plan of the new administration.
Since Governor Dapo Abiodun came into office, workers in the state have their hope on the rise by the day going by the promise that their welfare will not be taken for granted. This hope has in the last one month given birth to a form of peace and tranquility that the best time being long awaited for the prosperity of the workforce is here.
