I75 Environmental Laws violators apprehended in Ekiti – Hon Agbeyo.

Ekiti State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has
apprehended One Hundred and Seventy Five (175) offenders for violating
Environmental Laws between January and October this year.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Hon. Gbenga
Agbeyo gave the Information while addressing Journalists in Ado-Ekiti.

Agbeyo explained that the offenders were arrested and prosecuted for
violating various offenses such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse,
open defecations, dirty surrounding, failure to participate in Monthly
Environmental Sanitation and lack of toilet facilities in their
residences.

According to him, the arrests were made by Monthly Environmental
Monitoring Team, Environmental Task Force known as Operation Kick
Against Bad Act and Environmental Health Officers of the Ministry.

The Commissioner said that government was poised to curb various
Environmental offences as the Ministry is working on the review of the
Ekiti State Environmental Laws which according to him, has become
obsolete.

Agbeyo commended various Non-Governmental Organizations working in
collaboration with the Ministry during the Monthly Environmental
Sanitation for their cooperation and efficiency.

He listed some of these NGOs and Government establishments to include
Man O War, Scouts of Nigeria, War Against Indiscipline and Girls
Guild.

Others are Federal Road Safety Commission, Nigerian Police Force,
Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Royal Ambassadors and Global Initiative
For Harmony in Nigeria.
