The Ekiti State commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon
Michael Awopetu who made this known in Ado Ekiti said about 2000
participants are expected to participate in the epoch event.
Awopetu explained that the focus was to ensure youth participation
stressing that participation forms would be made available in higher
institutions across the country to encourage interested youths while
the forms would also be available nationwide as well as on the Ikogosi
Marathon Initiative website.
Hon Awopetu who spoke through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry
of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Yemi Owoseni assured that
adequate security would be provided for both participants and
spectators adding that about 200 technical volunteers made up of
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members would also be recruited to
assist in coordinating the event.
The Commissioner solicited the support of people in the state for the
success of the marathon adding that the programme is part of efforts
of the Fayemi-led administration to boost youth development and put
the state back in its pride of place.
