Private Schools in the state caught operating without meeting

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr.
Foluso Daramola, gave the warning during a meeting with the leadership
of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS),
Ekiti State Chapter in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr. Daramola, who expressed dismay at the proliferation of substandard
private schools in the state, disclosed that many proprietors of
unregistered schools established their schools in flagrant
disobedience to laid down Educational Guidelines and State Town
Planning and Environmental Laws.

He stressed that information at his disposal also indicates that a
particular Private School was reportedly cohabiting with a mentally
deranged person, thus putting the life of teachers and pupils at risk.

The Commissioner revealed that he was reliably informed that most
buses conveying pupils of Private Schools were not roadworthy, warning
that his Ministry would henceforth take steps towards prosecuting
proprietors and drivers found conveying pupils in rickety and unsafe

Daramola added that the State Government was not doing this to
witch-hunt them from earning their daily bread but to put sanity and
minimum bench mark into the system.

and Technology, Mr. James Owolabi, said the Ministry would soon carry
out a census of schools in the state, saying that all certified
Private Schools should submit accurate census of their respective

Responding, the Chairman, National Association of Proprietors of
Private Schools (NAPPS), Ekiti State chapter, Reverend Oluwafemi
Williams, commended the State Government for the development,
stressing that members of the Association would comply strictly with
the directive.
