The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources,
Hon. Gbenga Agbeyo has warned the people of the state against dumping
sands, granite, debris, refuse and other construction materials on the
roadsides and drainages.
Agbeyo who gave the warning while addressing Journalists in Ado Ekiti
frowned at the way people block the road with construction materials
and littered the streets with refuse stressed the need for whoever is
embarking on construction work to find a proper place to drop
materials without causing any obstruction and always clear the debris
and make the environment clean.
He cautioned the people of the state against dumping of refuse on
drainages to avert flooding.
According to him all hands must be on deck to prepare against flooding
this year adding that people should play their roles by doing the
right things at the right time.
Agbeyo also advised people to desist from dumping refuse packs on the
road median warning that whoever is caught would be made to face the
wrath of the law.
Speaking on the efforts of government at combating flooding in the
state, he said Ekiti State Government was partnering with the World
Bank to put permanent solution to ecological problems militating
against the state across the sixteen Local Governments.
He hinted that government has conducted the World Bank officials round
the flood ravaging areas which have already been mapped out for
The Commissioner stressed the commitment of the present administration
to providing conducive environment and making live more convenient and
pleasurable for its citizenry.
