We have not recorded any index case on COVID-19 in Ekiti State – Yaya-Kolade

Ekiti State Government has reiterated its commitment to protect
citizens and residents of the state against COVID19.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola
Yaya-Kolade, gave this assurance at the Isolation Centre, Oba Adejugbe
General hospital, Ado-Ekiti where medical practitioners are undergoing

Dr. Yaya-Kolade, who enjoined all medical practitioners, who have
volunteered to help in combating the Pandemic to put in their best by
ensuring excellent professionalism in their conduct, emphasized that
the recent incident of reported Corona Virus case in Ekiti State was
not an index case since the result was inconclusive.

The Commissioner reiterated that the two isolated patients have not
been confirmed positive and they are responding well to treatment.

Yaya-Kolade, who gave assurance on the safety of the medical
practitioners handling the cases, urged them to take all precautionary
measures against the virus.

“Ekiti State is not interested in losing an ant to this Pandemic let
alone human beings. We, as a government would ensure the protection of
our dear residents”, she further assured.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Case Management Team on Coronavirus, who
is also the Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr.
Williams Afolabi commended quick response and pro-activeness of the
State Government in curtailing the spread of Corona virus to Ekiti

Dr. Afolabi said the committee is seriously on the contact tracing of
the USA citizen that died in the state and would ensure that steps are
taken in accordance with the directives and dictates of the Nigeria
Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

A lecturer at the training, Dr. Bayo Fashola, educated the
participants on risk assessment, use of personal protective equipment
and their use, advised care- givers to avoid touching their faces and
bodies while attending to patients.

The participants, who were drawn from secondary and tertiary health
facilities across the state, were later conducted round the Isolated
Centre. They commended Ekiti State Government on the state of the
facilities and equipment at the Centre
