The Ogun State Government has met with leaders of Religious bodies on specific definitive guidelines towards further easing of the lockdown as regards reopening of worship centers in the State.

Leading the government team at the meeting held in Abeokuta, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi noted that the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration was mindful of the potency of prayers, praise worship and other religious activities during this pandemic period in global history, saying, government accorded high premium to safety of lives and well-being of the people of the State and would not take any untoward decision that would affect their healthy living, particularly, at this period.

The State’s Scribe appealed to the religious leaders to further sensitise and ensure strict adherence of their faithful on laid down global measures on the pandemic.

Also speaking, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Shuaib Salisu, appreciated the religious bodies for cooperating with the State government on the preventive measures undertaken to contain the virus amongst the people, particularly, the sacrifices made from the onset of the pandemic, assuring that the present administration would not take their support for granted.

Reeling out some of the submissions at the meeting, the Chief of Staff emphasised that a committee would be set up to harmonise the proposed guidelines by the religious bodies, while any worship center that violates government order would be duly sanctioned.

In their separate remarks, the Chief Imam of Yewaland and Secretary, League of Imam and Alfas, Alhaji Tajudeen Adewunmi and Secretary, Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Stephen Adeyemi, applauded Governor Abiodun for putting in place various global health preventive measures towards containment of the spread of the virus in the State.

The religious leaders thereafter advised their members to be patient with the decision of government, as plans were in the pipeline to reopen worship centers for people’s spiritual rejuvenation
