Resident of Abeokuta in Ogun state have lamented the deplorable condition of the always-busy Kuto road which as been under construction since the last administration.

The road is one of the many roads abandoned projects by the past administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun. But the current administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun, has since its inception embarked on reconstruction of the abandoning road.
However, movement of persons and goods in the area has been difficult due to the bad condition of the road.

While some people give kudos to Abiodun for not abandoning the project as did other past administrations, some give him nocks over slow pace of work on the road as some motorists lamented that the slow pace of construction on the road project is having a negative impact on commercials activities in the area,
Visionupdate reporter,Joy Eze took on a tour of the road ,on Friday to see the level of work been done so far.
According to a road user who spoke on condition of anonymity “Since the construction of this Kuto Road, accessing it has become difficult, thereby leading to the increase in the cost of transportation by commercial taxi drivers ,who plys the road, while others avoid taking the route at major times.”

He said before the construction of the road, raffic on the road was not a narrative, adding that the amount charged by drivers was minimal unlike what it is now, stating that, even the drivers are not to be blamed.

A motorists who also preferred not to be mentioned said before, he usually charges N 50 on any body going enrout Kuto, but now he charges as high as N 150, pending on the passenger’s negotiation ability, explaining that he charges such amount of money, because taking the route is a risk, blaming it on unaccessibility of the road, due to the ongoing construction,as most drivers avoids it.

His words ” I remember the time when the construction of the roads has not kicked off,we were at least still managing the road and will never meet any traffic or have thought of your car been damaged and the amount for transportation was low.
” But now the amount has been increased because the road is not good and one stays in traffic for a long time, taking the road is a risk , because I have to put my vehicle into consideration of been damaged, all though some passengers prices below #150 and I do carry them too

The people therefore called on the state Government to hasten up the construction process for speedy completion of the road to ease movement on the route, even as the Christmas period is fast approaching.
When contacted the Commissioner for information Odusile via the telephone, he stated that the government is aware of the situation, promising that the road would be completed before the end of the year to ease movement.

As at the time of filing this report, men of the construction firm which the road was awarded to were seen working in their various duty post as non agreed to speak with our reporter.
