The Ogun state Governor,Dapo Abiodun has called the Federal Government to adopt Adire as an attire to serve as a cultural symbol in the Nation’s foreign missions,in promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Country to the World.
Governor Abiodun,who made this known on Thursday at the launch of Ogun Adire Digital Market Place at June 12 Cultural Center at Kuto in Abeokuta,stated that Adire should be used for marking of ceremonial dress for the Nation’s Athletes taking part in International Sports.
He said that the use of Adire as school uniforms will be in full force in all public schools in the state by next term.
His words ” I call on stakeholders in the information, cultural and tourism sectors to partner with us in promoting this national heritage, particular the Honourable minister for information and culture to help promote Adire at the National Level.
Abiodun explained that the event was to maintain a global platform for the marketing and distribution fabric and it’s entire value chain to the global market and serve as a meeting point for all participants in the entire value chain, which provides opportunity for a wider coverage of the market for people to reach out to vendors and transact businesses by logging into the Adire digital mall.
He noted that plans have reached an advanced stage to making Adire,an important an important commodity,as all major Government functionaries in the state now wear Adire on Fridays, emphasising that it would empower more people and further stimulate the Adire economy.
The Governor, However called on investors to take advantage of the Advantage of the new Ogun Digital Market Place by partnering and intensifying their collaboration with the Government in the development of arts, culture and tourism in the state.
Speaking,The minister for Information and culture,Alhaji Lai Mohammed lauded the state Government’s effort in exposing Adire to the World,adding that it was in line with the state Government diversification Policy.
