The Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority has promised to collaborate with the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta to solve the perennial water problems being faced by the Institution.

The Managing Director/CEO of the Authority, Olufemi Odumosu stated this on Tuesday, 9th February, 2021, when he hosted the Provost/Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Afis Agboola at the Authority’s Headquarters, Abeokuta.

The Provost, Dr. Agboola has solicited for the Authority’s assistance in finding a lasting solution to the water challenges been faced by the Hospital in recent times.

He said the Hospital has twelve boreholes in which only four are functioning and thereby could not meet the water demands of the Institution.

He informed the Managing Director that the Federal Government in the 2021 Budget allocated four industrial boreholes to the hospital and that the hospital requires the professional expertise of the Authority to carry out the construction and reticulation of the Projects.

Dr. Agboola also said the visit was necessitated to inform the Authority of the numerous medical facilities in the hospital such as the recent Federal Government Covid-19 intervention fund for the establishment of Isolation Centre and a Modular Laboratory Centre with modern Health facilities not only to detect corona virus, but also to detect bacteria, ebola, tuberculosis and all sorts of virus that plague human race.

In his address, Odumosu informed the gathering that as a Federal Government Agency saddled with the responsibility of undertaking comprehensive development of both surface and underground water resources for multipurpose uses across the States of Ogun, Osun, Oyo and Lagos, the Authority is professionally equipped to make technical intervention so as to bring lasting solution to the water challenges been faced by the Hospital.

The Managing Director/CEO informed the Provost that the Authority also constructs, operates and maintain Irrigation facilities; Dams, Dykes and boreholes; Infrastructural facilities such as rural road linking the Authority’s Project sites.

He said that with the present Federal Administration’s policy of diversification of the economy, the Authority is also involved in Agricultural services with regards to the numerous Farm and Irrigation Projects that cut across the four States, Ogun, Oshun, Oyo and Lagos covered by the operations of the Authority.

In acknowledgement of the medical facilities being proffered by the Hospital, the MD said he will also encourage of the need for regular mental health check-up along with the physical well-being for all public servants as practiced in other advanced countries as a way of helping the officers to manage and reduce work related stress and hypertensive associated with day to day activities of the office.

He assured the Provost that the Authority would explore and key-in to all the medical facilities offered by the Hospital when the need arises and that the National Health Insurance Scheme of the Institution would be introduced to staff of the Authority most especially the new officers.

The Provost also used the medium to congratulate the Managing Director for his re-appointment for a second term in office and also solicited for more collaborations between the two Federal Organisations.
