Ogun State Government has called on artisans to take advantage of new trends in technology to upgrade their skills, so as to further expose them to usage of modern equipment for growing their trades and certify them for State contracts.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa made this call in Abeokuta during a general meeting with Association of Skilled and Vocational Artisans of Nigeria (ASVAN).

Odemuyiwa explained that it was necessary to engage in learning process that would sharpen people’s knowledge in their chosen field, saying artisans would be more efficient in job delivery when technology is deployed.

The Special Adviser also emphasised the need for more youths to acquire vocational skills, in the course of their studies, noting that education without craftsmanship was not enough to be self-sufficient.

In their responses, some members of the Association, Mr. Isikilu Aroyewun and Alhaja Alimat Kosoko commended the effort of the State government for involving them in direct labour contract, craft works, empowerment, among other beneficial opportunities.
