OGSIEC Gets Thumbs Up From NNPP For Declaring Nomination Fees For Chairmanship, Councillorship Candidates Fress
New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has commended the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission OGSIEC for the cancellation of the nomination fees for Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates in the coming local government elections.
It would be recalled that OGSIEC through their Chairman, Mr Babatunde Osibodu has announced the cancellation of nomination fee deposit for Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates in the forthcoming Local Government elections in the State for all political parties.
Mr Osibodu, who made the disclosure while fielding questions from the press in Abeokuta, said, OGSIEC had in the guidelines released earlier, stipulated the payment of non-refundable deposit of N200,000 and N100,000 by intending candidates nominated and cleared to contest the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in the council polls.
To this end, Olufemi Solola, member of the NNPP in Ogun state in a press statement made available to journalists in Abeokuta today said the cancellation was the right thing to do.
According to the statement, “Thank God that NNPP single handedly and publicly challenged OGSIEC to drop the illegal nomination fees or be sued to court.”
“This shows that NNPP stands to protect the people from poverty, oppression and injustice, and will do everything humanly and legally possible to achieve this”.
“I hereby urge Osibodu’s led OGSIEC to give the good people of Ogun state, a free and fair election, in which there is no rigging or violence, and where everyone’s vote counts, and all candidates and parties are equally and fairly treated.”
