Officials of the Ekiti State Signage and Advertisement Agency have
commenced removal of posters and billboards pasted indiscriminately in
the vicinity of the Governor’s Office between Fajuyi area of the State
capital and Okesha junction.

The Director General of the Agency, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede who made
this known in Ado Ekiti, said that the move was to curb what he
described as an eyesore created by indiscriminate pasting of posters
and erecting billboards across the State.

Mr. Onipede decried the flagrant disregard of the extant laws on
signage and advertisement in the State by some advertisers and
politicians who paste posters and erect billboards without proper
approval from the Signage and Advertisement Agency.

Stressing that the total disregard of the Signage laws and defacing
the environment is condemnable, he cautioned that not only would the
offending posters and billboards be removed, but culprits would be
prosecuted and also made to pay the cost of removing the felonious
items.

Onipede emphasized that the increase in political activities in the
State in view of the forthcoming gubernatorial election is no
justification for mutilating the environment.

Warning that there would be no scared cow, Onipede said that
development would serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.

According to him, the Agency had embarked on series of advocacy and
sensitization before embarking on the ongoing enforcement of the
signage laws, saying that there was no room for excuses.

Onipede assured that the Agency would continue to be fair to all
parties in approving all outdoor signage and advertisement, but would
not tolerate any attempt to cut corners and shortchange the State.

He solicited the continued support of people in the State, stressing
the need for all and sundry to join hands together towards developing
the State and improving the lot of the people.
