ABEOKUTA – Debutant, Nigeria Customs Service Football Club on Saturday emerged champions of the 2nd edition of SWAN/Security and Safety Cup in Ogun State.

The Customs Team thrashed Police Machine 4-1 in an entertaining final match played at the mainbowl of the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The Customs Team took the lead of the encounter through a sublime volleyball by the Customs attacker, Ogunlade Ishola in the 3rd minutes of the kick-off.

Owodi Francis later extended the margin, to end the first half with two goals advantage.

The Police Machine reduced the margin within seven minutes of the remaining half, before the Customs came out forcefully into the encounter to score two more goals through Francis Owodi and AbdulKadri Yohanna to complete their onslaught against Nigeria Police Team.

Speaking shortly after the match, the Chief Coach of the victorious team, Assistant Custom Controller, Wunti Usman Muhammed attributed the success to the understanding among the players who according to him, have been playing together as a team in third division of the National League in the country.

The AC Muhammed urged other security agencies to encourage their young talented officers to engage in sporting activities such as football, so as to enable them build a formidable team for the competition.

He lauded the ability of the Ogun State chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN in organizing the competition, describing everything about the competition powered by LADO Group and other sponsors as perfect.

Meanwhile, Sunday Emmanuel of the Nigeria Customs Service was adjudged as the Highest Goalscorer of the competition with 5goals, while Nigeria Police goalkeeper retained his Best Goalkeeper of the competition he won in the first edition.

Team DSS went home with the tournament’s Fair Play Award for the team’s discipline, while Adamu Dauda emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the competition.

Earlier, in the losers final played, last year’s champions, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) thrashed Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) team 5- 0, to win the consolatory bronze and cash prize of N100,000, the Police Machine received a cash prize of N150, 000 for winning the silver medals while the new Champions, Customs smiled home with gold and cash prize of N250,000.
