In its quest to enable teachers to fulfill their divine professional mandate of cultivating generations of highly responsible, disciplined and useful Nigerians, Ogun State Government has promised to map out ways to extend welfare packages for teachers, to further achieve higher productivity.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave the assurance at the 6th Quadrennial Congress of the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Ogun State Chapter, saying the present administration holds teachers in high esteem towards sustaining the delivery of quality education.

Arigbabu stated that primary education serves as the foundation level of all education strata through which children were given good preparatory ground for further studies, noting that it was key to the success or failure of the whole educational edifice on which the system thrives.

He said ‘’teachers must be regarded as the bedrock for national development due to the roles they are playing in the educational foundation of the young ones. Therefore, our Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun will continue to prioritise your welfare. I want to commend all our primary school teachers for their relentless efforts towards maintaining and sustaining quality education in our schools’’.

In his address, the Board Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi emphasised the importance of primary education to the development of any nation, charging the teachers to rededicate themselves for optimal discharge of their duties.

In his goodwill message, the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comrade Akinola Abiodun commended the leadership of AOPSHON for their contributions to the progression of primary education, while admonishing them to continue to brainstorm, creative and come up with key decisions on the running of public primary education.

In his welcome address, the State AOPSHON Chairman, Comrade Olatunji Basiru revealed that the Association under his leadership invested more in human capacity development for teachers and school administrators for improved learner outcomes, noting that the government’s huge investment in primary education had resulted in learners’ significant progress in different competitions, such as Spelling Bee, STEM, Debate, JETS and many more.

He acknowledged the efforts of Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration in the education sector, particularly its priority for teachers’ well-being, pledging the Associations’ continued cooperation with the government to restore standard of education in the State.
