The Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission has approved the
suspension of a teacher for allegation of physical assault, battery
and Gender- Based Violence against a female student.
In a letter released to the culprit through the Permanent Secretary,
Teaching Service Commission, Mr Mike Omolayo, stated that the teacher
named Mr Joseph Oladele Owoeye, from All Soul’s Anglican Grammar
School Ado – Ekiti, Chief Master 1 while on official assignment
allegedly involved in the act of violence and physical assault against
a female student at Ado Community High School, Ado – Ekiti.
“The act of the teacher was tantamount to misconduct unbecoming of
public official entrusted with molding the destinies of younger ones”.
The letter read.
He explained that the interim penalty meted out to him was in
accordance with the provisions of the extant rules and regulations of
the State Public Service Rules and the State Teaching Service Manual;
hence the indefinite suspension pending the final determination of the
case.
Mr Omolayo disclosed that the erring teacher was first queried and
interrogated at the Commission before the indefinite suspension from
the Teaching Service which will serve as deterrent to others who might
want to indulge in such depraved and unethical act.
