The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has urged
political office holders and their spouses to prioritize the welfare
of members of their constituencies, reminding them that they are the
people’s representatives in government.
Speaking at an interface with the spouses of the State House of
Assembly members, the first lady explained that the lives of people at
the grass-root must be positively impacted by every political office
holder.
Dr Oyebanji, noted that with the prevalent high cost of living
reasonable measures must be taken to cushion the effects of hardship
that citizens may face.
She called for a collaborative effort aimed at putting smiles on the
faces of citizens, noting that whatever the wives of the lawmakers do
to provide succor for their constituents would compliment the efforts
of the state government.
The First Lady equally stressed the need to make themselves accessible
to people in their various constituencies; noting that this will
ensure that the people are truly represented by the lawmakers.
Earlier in her remarks the wife of the speaker Ekiti State House of
Assembly, Mrs Adenike Aribasoye stated that the group had visited the
office of the first lady to notify her with their plans to initiate
programs that would add value to the State.
In their contributions,the wife of the lawmaker representing Oye
Constituency 2, Mrs Mary Odebunmi and her counterpart from Moba
constituency 2, Mrs Bukola Awoniyi itemized some of their proposed
projects to include skills acquisition for the youth, widows and
orphans care, support to aged, health care, women empowerment among
others.
They were optimistic that if the projects were well implemented it
would reduce poverty level and curb social vices.
