The Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji has been
inaugurated as the Nutrition Champion in Ekiti.

The honour was conferred on the first lady during the official flag
off ceremony of first round of 2023 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health
Week held at the conference hall of the first lady’s office in Ado
Ekiti.

While responding, Dr Oyebanji appreciated the committee on Food and
Nutrition headed by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Budget,
Economic Planning and Performance Management, Mr Olusesan Alabi for
the honour, with a promise to
support the committee in its efforts at ensuring that Ekiti is ranked
the best in the area of food and nutrition among other states in
Nigeria.

She said that the administration of Mr Biodun Oyebanji was committed
to giving priority to the health sector by equipping various hospitals
and implementing qualitative programmes across the state.

The First Lady who noted that the programme which is bi-annual would
come up between Friday July 28 to Tuesday August 1, this year in all
government Health facilities and designated places across the 16LGAs
and in all Council Development Areas of the state.

Dr. Oyebanji therefore advised care givers and mothers to avail
themselves of the opportunities provided by the Maternal, New-born and
Child Health Week at ensuring that their wards and children benefit
from the intervention

In his address, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr
Oyebanji Filani charged all caregivers to accord priority to the
nutrition of children to aid their growth, wellbeing and make them to
contribute meaningfully to the society.

In her goodwill message, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr.
Habibat Adubiaro, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and
Special Services, Mrs Olayemi Kayode-Ojo called on stakeholders,
including Royal Fathers, Council Chairmen, Civil society groups and
others to sensitize all concerned individuals to participate in the
programme.

Also the chairman Food and Nutrition committee who also doubles as
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget Economic Planning and
Performance Management, Mr Olusesan Alabi expressed hope that the
health week would improve on the prevailing record of the state in
respect of child mortality.
