The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial zone and Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Public
Accounts/Water Resources, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, yesterday stated that the design of the road linking Ebonyi state to Benue state has been completed and it will be captured in the next budget by the Federal Government.
Senator disclosed this , when he celebrated the Ojiji New Yam Festival with his kith and kin from Ebonyi local government area at his Abakaliki residence
Senator Nwebonyi also revealed that through the historic motion move against Police brutality, and the incidence of extortion and harassment of road users has been reduced to the barest minimum.
He said;
‘On the first day of the inauguration of the 10th Senate, I moved the first motion. The Senate President insisted that the motion must come first because it is all inclusive and people oriented. I even received an award for that. Through that historic motion against Police brutality, the incidence of extortion and harassment of road users has been reduced to the barest minimum’
‘I also drew the attention of the whole country to the importance of the road linking Ebonyi state to Benue state at the floor of the Senate. As I speak to you, the design of that road has been completed and it will be captured in the next budget by the Federal Government. I want to assure you that we are not sleeping at the National Assembly. We must surely bring the glory home because charity begins at home. As I have always said, leadership is a competition in charity.’
Distinguished Senator , therefore commended his boss, the immediate past governor of Ebonyi state and the Deputy Majority Leader/ Ministerial nominee, His Excellency, Senator David Umahi for his mentorship and kindness to him. He noted that the foremost leader of the south east has made a serious case for him to replace him in the leadership of the 10th Senate after his official inauguration into the federal Executive council.
He maintained that by the grace of God, the intention of the majority of people of goodwill must come into fruition in matter of weeks.
Earlier the Council Chairman lauded the ingenuity of Senator Nwebonyi and his tactful political calculations which enabled him to penetrate into the mainstream of the power brokers in the 10th Senate. He explained that he has been following with keen interest the activities of Senator Nwebonyi in the Senate and can proudly beat his chest that Ebonyi local government area has got a force to reckon with in the 10th Senate.
‘The most Distinguished, we are proud of your impressive scorecards in the Senate within the first three months of your official inauguration. You have demonstrated capacity, intelligence, forthrightness and unique spirit of industry of a typical Izzi man.
‘I want to assure you that we are solidly behind you in all fronts. You have our prayers, solidarity, support and encouragement at all times. We have already concluded that you are the next Deputy Majority Leader of the 10th Senate and fate has sealed it as well because the voice of the people is the voice of God’.
