In a recent development, the Ogun State Government has issued a stern warning to the public regarding a fraudulent message that has been making rounds on social media.
The State Government, who issued this warning through a statement signed by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Governor, Dapo Abiodun, said that the message falsely claims that Governor Dapo Abiodun is offering a N10,000 cash palliative to each individual in the state.
The statement explained that the scam, which includes a link for application, encourages people to apply for the non-existent cash palliative and to spread the word for others to benefit.
However, the Ogun State Government, has disowned the message, labeling it as a complete scam and urging citizens not to be deceived.
According to the State government, the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun is committed to genuine alleviation of the suffering of the citizens and residents of the state through initiatives such as the numerous empowerment programmes and policies it has rolled out since 2019 and the N5 billion intervention scheme it announced recently.
These initiatives are aimed at providing financial support and other forms of empowerment to traders, artisans, women, youths, and other beneficiaries to enhance their businesses and foster self-reliance.
Furthermore, the statement clarified that the government is not associated with any cash transfer program linked to the fraudulent message and specifically denounced the provided link as unauthorized and deceptive.
“The Ogun State Government is not involved in any form of cash transfer programme through the link provided in the scam message as https://taskcashup.com/get/OGUN-st-relief-funds/Apply/ogun-reg-portal,” the statement said.
The government however cautioned that any attempt to access or provide personal information through this link is risky and could lead to significant personal data compromise.
The State Government also advised the public to rely only on official channels for authentic information regarding government intervention programs.
These channels include government websites, press releases, and verified social media handles adding that any information not disseminated through these official sources should be regarded with suspicion and avoided.
The state government however urged the public to remain vigilant and to refrain from sharing such fraudulent messages.
