Ekiti SUBEB Chairman Commends Management for Effective Delivery on UB
Activities
The Executive Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board,
Prof. Femi Akinwumi has commended the management and staff of the
Board for their outstanding productivity which has translated into
effective delivery of all Universal Basic Education (UBE) activities
in the State in the last one year.
Speaking at the annual rendition of departmental activities of the
Board in Ado-Ekiti, Prof. Akinwumi said the efforts of the management
Staff have contributed to the achievements of the Board in the year
under review.
The programme which also included rendering of accounts of stewardship
by the Education Secretaries from the 16 Local Government Education
Authorities (LGEAs) enabled the Directors and Education Secretaries to
give reports on activities and programmes under their purview from
January to December 2023.
The SUBEB boss commended the officials for their exceptional service
delivery in the basic education sector which cuts across the academic
development of pupils, capacity building of teachers and staff
development, as well as project execution and maintenance, financial
management, regular monitoring of school activities, accurate data
collection and dissemination, effective media coverage and publicity
among others.
He called for greater synergy among the various departments to achieve
a common goal, stressing that the cohesiveness among the various
sections and units would continue to make the board a united, strong
and result-oriented agency of government in the State.
While reacting to reported cases of burglary, theft, looting of
schools’ properties and encroachment of school land in some
communities , Prof. Akinwumi advised on the need to adopt the Basic
Education Surveillance Team (BEST) to guard against this social
malaise manifesting in some urban centres in the state adding that
security of schools should be a collective responsibility of all
stakeholders.
Addressing the Education Secretaries, Akinwumi urged them to ensure
regular monitoring of the schools in their areas of jurisdiction for
optimal UBE delivery and to justify the huge financial resources being
committed to basic education by the Governor Oyebanji led
administration.
The Chairman also used the opportunity to warn against collection of
illegal frees from pupils, stressing that the free and compulsory
education policy of the State government is still subsisting and must
be strictly adhered to.
Present at the event were the Board Commissioners for Human Resource
Management and Project Management, Dr Olufunke Fajobi and Dr. Kayode
Adeoye, respectively as well as the Permanent Secretary, Mr Afolabi
Adebiyi.
The Commissioners urged the management team to rededicate themselves
to their duties in order to take the Board to greater and enviable
heights.
