Your Votes will be protected, asssures 0pposition partiesi n the state
Ahead of the November 16 Local Government election, Mr Babatunde Osibodu, the Chairman, Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has assured opposition parties that there votes would be protected during the election.
Osibodu spoke at a stakeholders meetings held at the commissions office in Abeokuta on Monday.
The OGSIEC chairman explained, that the commission was determined to conduct free, fair and credible elections.
He urged political parties come out boldly and shun violence, saying that security before, during and after the election was already mapped out.
He encouraged political parties to put in effort to convince their electorate that they were better than their opponents, adding that it was important electorates to come out during the election.
“Your supporters need to come out boldly without violence, do not be afraid of the security forces, bring your supporters out on election day, you will be protected and your vote will be protected, that’s my guarantee to you.
” We shall conduct the election with utmost dignity.,” he said.
Osibodu also advised parties to send their agents to polling units to sign and verify results.
Earlier, Party Chairmen had expressed displeasure on the modus oprandi of the commission during elections, wondered why opposition parties usually lose local government election.
Chairman of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ola Williams, urged the commission to ensure free, credible and fair election.
He advised the commission to resist election manipulation.
